400 Transatlantic Passengers Overnight At Shannon

Almost 400 transatlantic passengers, who were bound for London, have spent the night in Shannon.

The passengers were due to fly to London Heathrow, but were unable to complete their journeys to cold weather in the UK.

Across Europe, the death toll from the cold weather has now surpassed 300.

The mercury dipped to as low as minus 40 degrees in Finland, while in Rome, traffic was virtually paralysed by black ice as snow covered the city.

Meanwhile, what’s been described as the largest repositioning of aircraft seen in Europe in many years was completed this weekend with 14 passenger jets arriving in Shannon this weekend.

The jets were previously operated by the Hungarian airline Malev, which was wound up on Friday.
