Proposals for a 60 million euro private hospital in Ennis – creating up to 700 full and part time jobs have been put forward.
It would be located at the site of the former Psychiatric Hospital on the Gort Road.
In documents lodged with An Bord Pleanala, Duesbury Ltd is planning to develop the 97- bed hospital within the 19th-century protected structure that housed the former HSE run facility.
The project would comprise a full care hospital providing all medical services and ancillary accommodation to include 97 full in-patient beds, 12 consultant suites with 30 first-strategy recovery cubicles and office accommodation.
The planning appeals board is currently considering whether it can be classified as a strategic infrastructure development and if it gets the green light – a 100 jobs would be created during construction with a further 600 when operational.
Last year, separate plans by another group of developers for a private hospital on lands at Shanaway Road in Ennis were turned down by An Bord Pleanala.
