A man has been arrested in connection with an incident where a West Clare Garda was sent a pigs head in the post.
The man was detained by officers yesterday and held at Kilrush Garda Station.
The Garda in question in question is understood to be heavily involved in community work in the region where he works in west Clare and is well regarded of by the community he serves.
However, two weeks ago he received a package at his home containing the pigs head – the incident was branded as sickening and disgusting by local representatives.
Kilrush Gardaí contacted An Post as part of their investigations, in an effort to identify the sender, and yesterday detained a man in the West Clare area for questioning.
Gardaí say the man who has been arrested is middle-aged – he was held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act but was released without charge last night.
A file is being prepared for the DPP.
