The government has again insisted that Shannon Airport has not been used by the US military to transport prisoners in so-called rendition flights.
Speaking in the Dáil this week, the Tánaiste also insisted that the coalition had received assurances from ‘the highest level’ that prisoners have not, and would not be transported through Irish airspace without prior permission.
Eamon Gilmore made the comments in response to independent TD Mick Wallace, who had asked him about long-standing claims that Clare’s international airport had been used for such illegal activity.
