The Central Statistics Office says the population of Clare grew by over 200 from April – June last year.
The CSO’s Vital Statistics has recorded 405 births to mothers in the county in the period, compared with a total of 174 deaths.
73% of all births were to married mothers, which was among the highest figures recorded nationwide, while the average ages of Clare mothers were higher than those recorded nationally.

Meanwhile, 111 children were born to mothers who were not married, though in 78 of these cases both parents were co-habiting.
