Broad Welcome to Booz Findings
It’s claimed full autonomy for Shannon Airport is inevitable as The Booz report warns of a "significant threat to its future viability under the current ownership arrangement".
The review by the consultant’s group into its operations also states that separation from the DAA offers better growth prospects for the mid west facility.
It believes a "local concession model" to include councils in Clare and Limerick along with Shannon Development and other commercial interests would offer the greatest opportunities for developing business.
Fears have been expressed by Clare Fianna Fail TD that a stand alone Shannon would ultimately lead its closure because of the loss of state aid which neither the local authorities or Shannon Development could cover.
However Clare Government TD have rejected this, accusing the opposition TD of scaremongering and adding that the report strengthens the argument put by various stakeholders in the Mid West Region that real change is needed
