The potential dangers of hydraulic fracturing or ‘fracking’ are to be discussed at a public meeting in Ennis later this evening
NUIG hydro-geologist Tiernan Henry will speak at the Clare Fracking Concerned event at 7pm in Glor.
The meeting comes just days after the Minister for energy Pat Rabbitte announced that no fracking will take place in Ireland until a full EPA report on the controversial practice is complete.
Fracking involves high pressure drilling to exploit natural gas from shale and though the practice hasn’t taken place in Ireland, the Clare basin has been identified as somewhere it could take place.
Clare County Council voted to oppose fracking in January and Irish Times Jounramist Lorna Siggins- who will chair this evening’s event – says its a very contenious issue
