The Garda Ombudsman has recommended disciplinary action be taken against one of five gardaí over recorded comments about two female Corrib gas protesters.
The incident occurred when a camera – confiscated from two female protesters who had been arrested – recorded comments made by a number of gardaí about the women.
The report, published this afternoon, states that "all four gardaí confirmed that the use of the word "rape" during this conversation was, at every stage, by their Sergeant.
He has since retired and isn’t subject to garda disciplinary procedures but the Ombudsman has recommended proceeding be taken against another official heard on the tape
