Fears for Shannon maintenance jobs

Up to 70 jobs at Shannon Airport could be under threat as Aer Lingus considers transferring its maintenance operations from the Mid West to Dublin.

The issue is up for discussion by the board of the former state carrier this coming Friday and its reported that while the maintenance facility would remain at Shannon – it would be tiny after operations are consolidated in Dublin.

One key issue is what would happen to the Aer Lingus maintenance hangar at Shannon, which is leased from the Dublin Airport Authority.

The airline which employs 250 people in the Mid West is making no comment on the issue but Shannon Independent Councillor Patricia McCarthy says its a very disturbing development .
