A Shannon fire-fighter is recovering after being attacked while attending a callout in Limerick City last night.
The Clare unit was attending the scene of one of up to 19 illegal bonfires across the city when it came under fire from local youths while attempting to put out a blaze at the site of the old Cathedral Carpets store on Mungret Street.

One fire officer from Shannon was struck with an iron bar , earlier another fire fighter from Limerick was seriously injured after he was struck by a glass bottle at the site of a separate blaze.
