There’s scepticism over commercial talks involving Aer Lingus’ maintenance operations at Shannon which the Transport Minister believes could result in a jobs boost locally.
Yesterday Leo Varadkar moved to allay fears of 70 staff in the Mid West ahead of a board meeting of the airline on Friday where one of the items on the agenda refers to the "transfer of maintenance activity to Dublin"
However Minister Varadkar said the former state carrier is in talks with a number of commercial interests which could boost employment levels at Shannon Airport.
There was speculation Russian aviation maintenance company Transaero may be involved – although it has played down the suggestion
Sixmilebridge Independent Councillor PJ Ryan says that leaves many unanswered questions for the workers concerned.
