39 percent of Clare householders register for household charge

The latest figures on payment rates for the household charge continue to indicated that a large portion of Clare home-owners have so far failed to pay the 100 euro tax.

Less than 18,000 or 39% of all eligible home-owners here have registered to pay the charge online, according to new figures released by the Environment Minister.

The stats do not include applications through the post, or at local authorities, but those who have registered online after the March 31st deadline ARE included.

Clare’s payment rate shows the county’s acceptance of the charge is less than the national average – when all applications are considered, the government estimates that 700,000 home-owners have not signed up to pay the 100 euro tax.
