Headway study links alcohol and suicide tendencies

A new study claims there are strong links between excessive drinking and suicidal behaviour in Irish teenagers.

Headstrong is launching a new survey today which, for the first time, details the mental health and well-being of Irish young people, between the ages of 12 and 25.

It has found that more than 60 percent of young adults – or those between the ages 17 and 25 – reported drinking outside of World Health Organisation norms.

Drinkers in this age group were more likely to report suicidal tendencies.
