Fears over hedge cutting on key Clare routes

Concern has been expressed that hedges along Clare’s bus routes will be left uncut due to cuts in the Council’s budget.

Last evening’s meeting of the local authority heard that 75,000 euro has been allocated for hedge cutting this year, a considerable shortfall on recent years.

Routes used by school buses and Clare Accessible Transport are among the routes earmarked for hedge cutting, but Council officials have warned that any reduction in service will apply in these areas.

Kildysart Councillor Oliver Garry feels that the reduction in funding will make it difficult to service over 3,500km of roads.

However, he is hopeful that there won’t be a significant drop in the number of routes where hedges are scaled back.
