Energy minister says LNG dispute is delaying Shannon project

The Minister for Energy claims a decision by Shannon LNG to bring it’s disagreement with the Commissioner for Energy Regulation to Brussels is leading to significant delays in it’s planned project on the Shannon Estuary.

The company intends to build a liquified gas terminal at Ballylongford, Co. Kerry, creating hundreds of jobs in the MidWest.

However, it’s threatened to pull the plug due to plans for it to be levied with tariffs on gas interconnectors it would not use.

Clare County Council has called on  Energy Minister Pat Rabitte to intervene, but speaking in the Seanad he claimed Shannon LNG’s decision to lodge a number of complaints with the European Commission was now causing further delays.
