2863 Clare students are among the 116,774 students who begin the state examinations this morning, as the Leaving and Junior Cert examinations get underway.

All eyes will be on the 1278 students sitting the Leaving Cert in the county, as well as 88 others who are taking the Leaving Cert applied – like last year, slightly more girls will be sitting this exam than boys.

Meanwhile, just under 1500 Clare students begin their Junior Certs today – all students begin with English Paper 1 this morning, with Paper 2 then following for the Junior Certs, and home economics for those taking that subject for the Leaving.

The last exams take place on the 22nd of this month, though many will finish prior to this.

The results of the Leaving Certificate examinations will be available on Wednesday, the 15th August, and for Junior Certs in mid-September.
