Clare has seen the biggest drop-off in the sales of new cars of any county in Ireland so far this year.
New figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry shows 1450 new cars were registered in the county up to the end of July, but this marks a 26% drop on the same period last year.

Nationally, July actually saw a small annual increase in the number of new vehicles sold, but this was not reflected in Clare where an 8% drop was recorded.
Suzanne Sheridan of SIMI feels action needs to be taken to save jobs, and is calling for a second annual registration plate to be introduced.
