Transport Minister urged to act to prevent Shannon Strike

The Transport Minister’s being urged to strike a deal with DAA and Aer Lingus workers who are set to ground flights at Shannon, Cork and Dublin Airports next month.

The Sunday Business Post has reported that Siptu has given the go-ahead for industrial action over plans to reform pension arrangements.  The newspaper claims to have seen a memo – which says that each crew unit will participate in two hours of strike action on Thursday, September 20.

Minister Leo Varadkar says talks to resolve the row are ongoing, but warns ‘compromise…is required from all sides.’

However, Shannon Councillor Gerry Flynn feels the workers are within their rights to strike, and feels the Transport Minister must intervene further.
