Clare councillors are are calling for a rethink of newly introduced school transport regulations, which it’s claimed have caused worry among parents whose children are beginning secondary school this week.
Parents in Kilmurray who wish to send their children to school in Shannon are among those who have been told they are not fully eligible for school transport, even though such a bus service already exists.
The children concerned have purchased concessionary tickets, which means they can travel on the bus as long as there is space.
Bus Eireann says their tickets will be valid for the academic year, but local parent Carmel Carey has told Clare FM that many people are concerned.
