Ryanair insists costs behind decision to axe Shannon routes

Ryanair has rejected claims its engaged in "bullyboy tactics" by axing more routes at Shannon Airport and insists the decision’s due to high costs.

The airline will no longer operate services to Liverpool and Gran Canaria, and is cutting its weekly flight frequencies from 26 to 22.

It comes just weeks after Aer Arann announced that it was  suspending its Aer Lingus Regional service between Shannon Airport and Bristol for the Winter Season.

Local representatives have rejected Ryanair’s claims of high costs at the Mid West Airport and accused them of trying to set an agenda before an independent airport is established.

But Deputy CEO of Ryanair Michael Cawley has flatly rejected this
