Divisions over health cuts expected to dominate first Cabinet meeting

The controversy over 130 million euro worth of health cuts will be discussed at the first Cabinet meeting since the summer break today.

The cuts – announced last Thursday – have angered many in Labour and Fine Gael,  and its lead to the resignation of Ennis Councillor Paul O’Shea from the Labour Party.

It’s understood the Taoiseach Enda Kenny will try to eliminate tensions between the coalition parties at today’s meeting.

The cuts will hit agency workers and overtime, home help hours, homecare packages, and medical card entitlements.
