Only a fraction of Clare’ s householders have so far registered their septic tank with less than a month left before the cost rockets.
Latest figures from the Local Government Management Agency show just over 1,000 homes across the county have signed up.

However, Clare County Council estimates another 20,000 are liable – if these people do not pay by September 28th, the charge increases ten fold from 5 to fifty euro
Leaflets have been dropped into homes which the Council deems likely to owe the charge, and East Clare Councillor Joe Cooney is confident that people will get the message
