Fears for Clare patient services with Nenagh downgrade

Concern has been expressed that Clare patients could face longer queues at Limerick Regional Hospital as a result of the HSE’s decision to transfer more emergency cases to Dooradoyle.

From Monday week, emergency treatment of patients at Nenagh General Hospital is to be transferred to Limerick, leaving the Tipperary town with just a local injuries unit for 12 hours a day.

The HSE says the initiative is in line with the National Emergency Medicine Programme, but a spokesman for the Executive has told Clare FM that there are ‘no plans’ for a similar change in the status of Ennis General.

Despite this, Kilmaley Councillor and member of the Health Forum West Tom McNamara feels patients here will be concerned.
