HSE praise west Clare nursing home

Health inspectors have praised the staff and management of a West Clare nursing home for measures undertaken to look after it’s residents.

However, the assessment of Kilrush District Hospital has found areas for improvement, most of which have already been addressed.

An inspector from the Health Information and Quality Authority visited Kilrush District Hospital for an announced inspection on the 21st and 25th of last month.

Overall, the volunteer-run centre, which has a total of 40 residents, was highly praised in a report arising from the inspection.  It states that the management team demonstrated a high level of commitment, while evidence of good practice was found throughout the service.

The standard of the building and it’s furnishings was praised, along with the level of catering, medical standards and staff recruitment procedures.

However, the inspector identified a risk arising from the absence of handrails in some parts of the building, with no handrails affixed in a number of required areas.

In response, management have told HIQA that they have already taken measures to address this.
