The result was announced today by The Environment Minister Phil Hogan at the 2012 National Super Valu Tidy Towns Awards Ceremony in Dublin.

Clare’s County Town beat off stiff competition from other large urban centres such as Kilkenny City to claim the coveted prize and it’s the fourth time that Ennis has won the prize having succeeded  in 2006, 2008 and 2009.

Meanwhile, Ennis has this year also retained the Clare County Award for the 14th successive year, while it has received its 12th Gold Medal in as many years.

Furthermore, the town was named overall winner of the “Gum Litter Task Force National Award”, a category in which Newmarket-on-Fergus was also a finalist.

Ennis also won the Mid-West Endeavour Award, for which the villages of Connolly, Ballynacally and Mountshannon were also named finalists.

There was further success for County Clare today when Ballynacally and Kilrush both received a Gold Medal. Mountshannon secured a Silver Medal while there were Bronze Medals for Kilkee and Tuamgraney.

Speaking after the awards ceremony, Mayor of Ennis Councillor Peter Considine said Ennis’ award successes could not have been accomplished without the support of community groups, schools, residents associations, businesses and State agencies, in partnership with Ennis Town Council.
