The chief executive of a leading suicide and self-harm crisis centre says she’s not surprised at the stigma which still surrounds mental health in this country.
New research from St. Patrick’s University Hospital in Dublin has found that over a fifth of people believe that those suffering from a mental health problem are of below average intelligence, while nearly two-thirds say they would not hire someone who has a history of mental illness, on the grounds that they may be unreliable.

The figures co-incide with the annual World Suicide Awareness Day which is being marked today.
Speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus today, Pieta House CEO Joan Freeman said she feels the figures show the need for continued work in this area
