Impact claims extended council hours shows Croke Park’s delivering.

The Impact Trade Union says a Labour Court decision which will see some staff at Clare County Council work an extra hour per week for no extra pay, shows that the Croke Park agreement is still delivering savings.

The binding decision sees a minimum 34-hour working week set for some staff at Councils nationwide, and comes into affect from next March.

It affects over 5,000 management, clerical, administrative, professional and technical workers at 11 local authorities, and IMPACT claims this will amount to over 3,000 extra hours in the public service.

IMPACT says it expects to enter into talks on a new Croke Park deal next year, but Communications Officer Niall Shanahan feels this ruling demonstrates it’s value to the state.
