The HSE’s being told there’s no justification for downgrading Ennis General to an injuries only unit – which health staff warn will only further add to a system under serious strain.
Last week the Health Service Executive stated there was no plans to transfer all emergency medical care from Clare’s County Hospital -on foot of similar plans for Nenagh, however that position now seems to have changed.
In an updated statement today the Executive says that as part of the National Emergency Medicine Plan its envisaged that all county hospitals would be converted into a 12 hour unit- but added there was no time-line in place for such a move at Ennis General.
However Clare FM understands that changes could be in place by Christmas.
