The Junior Finance Minister says the current pension scheme will be reviewed and discussed carefully ahead of December’s budget.
Brian Hayes made the announcement in Dublin this morning – after it was revealed that more then 15 million was paid out last year in pensions for former presidents, ministers, members of the judiciary and other senior office holders.
Of this 15 million – over four million was paid out in ministerial pensions.
Meanwhile, the former Green Party Minister Eamon Ryan says the vast majority of TDs who lost their seats in the last election are not working and therefore, only have their public sector pensions to live off.
But he does admit many public sector pensions from the boom years are excessive.
