Clare County Council has begun stockpiling reserves of salt to treat roads across Clare this winter.
The local authority has revealed it has amassed over 3,000 tonnes of rock salt from the National Roads Authority and the Department of Transport to treat the county’s roads during any impending cold winter.

The council has been boosted by the fact that it has retained half of last year’s salt stock due to the mild weather that saw less than the anticipated levels of snowfall and frost.
Senior Transport Engineeer with Clare County Council Tom Tiernan is hoping that the local authority won’t have to use all its reserves treating the roads.
