The Environment Minister being called on to clarify whether on not the abolition of Clare’s four town councils will result in compulsory job cuts.
As part of Phil Hogan’s plans to reform local government the urban authorities in Ennis, Shannon, Kilrush and Kilkee will be replaced by new Municipal Districts, which will cover the entire county.

The proposals also include the closure of the local areas offices across Clare including those in Ennistymon, Scarriff and Westbury leading to fears for staff employed in those buildings.
Shannon Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn feels the general public don’t realise the the long-term results of the government’s action.
