Dundass say funding deal essential for Clare farming sector

The head of the Clare branch of the Irish Farmers Association says EU agriculture funds are a lifeline for Clare farmers and its essential the Taoiseach fights to maintain current levels.

Enda Kenny is among the European leaders meeting in Brussels today to discuss the EU’s trillion dollar budget for 2014 to 2020.

Pressure is mounting for massive cuts to the budget – as a result of the continuing economic crisis with EU President Herman Von Rompuy seeking reductions in the region of 80 billion euro.

Britain also wants a spending freeze but its reported France is backing Ireland’s push to secure current CAP levels.
