CSO Figures Reveal Drop In Clare Suicides In 2010

The CSO has revealed that the number of suicides in Clare in 2010 was more than half of the previous year.

The Organisation’s Report on Vital Statistics also shows a drop in the number of births and deaths across Clare.

1,693 Clare children were born in 2010, an annual drop of over 200.

The figure includes 537 from Ennis and 84 from Kilrush.  

6 births are recorded as having taken place in homes across the county with Wednesday and Friday the most common days for Clare children to be born that year.

The average age of a first time mum here is 29.7 years old, broadly in line with the national average, so too the total average age of just under 32.

The year also saw 761 deaths, a slight fall on 2009, with diseases of the circulatory system the most common cause.

24 Clare residentws lost their lives in accidents, and 8 were adjudged to have died by suicide, down from 18 in 2009.
