Clare man denies defrauding US heiress

A Clareman has denied in the High Court claims that he defrauded a 60-year-old American woman of around three million euro.

Thomas J Queally, of Lahaknock, Kilmaley, insists he did not steal the money from wealthy heiress Elisa Rodino.

Her lawyers claim he transferred the funds into a bank in Ennis, without authorisation, and that while they were engaged to be married, he had been living a double life with another fiancée.

Mr. Queally denies that he was ever engaged to Ms Rodino, or to another woman in New York, and insists claims he took the funds are simply untrue.

Last month, Ms Rodino secured a number of temporary freezing orders against Mr Queally preventing him from withdrawing the funds, and yesterday the High Court heard he is seeking for these to be set aside.

The case was adjourned until next week to allow Ms Rodino’s lawyers time to respond.
