Elderly Clare residents urged not to worry over panic button scheme cuts

Efforts are being made to reassure Clare’s older residents amid reports the budget for personal panic alarms has been slashed by over a million euro.

The allocation for the scheme was cut from 2.2 million euro to 1.1 million this year leading to fears that elderly people or those with physical disabilities that require the panic button will be unable to avail of it.

However today its reported that the government is seeking up to half a million euro in savings elsewhere in order to free up money for the scheme.

Ger Hoey – Flagmount Killanena Community Alert Chairperson admits its a concern but is urging people not to be unduly concerned as there are other measures in place to watch over elderly and vulnerable residents
