Trial listed to open over death of Deirdre McCarthy

A man is due to go on trial today charged with the murder of Clare woman Deirdre McCarthy  almost two years ago.

40 year Colm Deely of School Road, Ballyvaughan is charged with murdering the 43 year old woman at a place unknown in Co Clare on March 28, 2011.

The Central Criminal Court is sitting in Galway for the case

Guest house worker Deirdre McCarthy was last seen on Sunday March 27th 2011and reported missing the following day.

A three day search ensured for the 43 year old Ballyvaughan woman and her body was found washed up on the shore at Fanore Beach.

Father of two Colm Deely was subsequently charged with the murder of Deirdre McCarthy on or about the 28th of March 2011 at a location unknown in County Clare

The case has been listed for hearing before the Central Criminal Court today – which is sitting in Galway – and the trial is expected to get underway proper once a jury has been sworn in.
