A government decision to change a key scheme which has led to the maintenance and improvement of some of Clare’s smallest roads has been described as a retrograde step.
Under the Community Involvement Scheme, homeowners along a stretch of a local road paid 25% of the costs of it’s improvement.

However, this is to be replaced by a new pilot program which will require a 50% contribution for these works, and Clare County Council says it anticipates participation to be reduced considerably as a result.
The new program has not yet been finalised, and Clare County Councillors are now calling for a re-think.
