Concern expressed over cuts in Clare’s Local Roads Allocation

It’s feared the condition of many of Clare’s local roads will deteriorate further as the county’s local roads allocation for 2013 is cut by nearly 2 million euro.

Just over 13 million euro has been provided to the county council – and just under half of this has been earmarked for the general wear and tear projects that are carried out Clare’s Road Network.

Over 900 thousand euro has been earmarked for improvements works on the Miltown Malbay to Gort road, the ongoing Spancilhill project as well as works at Mountcatherine near Parteen.

There will also be a number of low cost road safety improvement projects in areas like Ennis, Inch and Clonlara.

However Ennis West Fianna Fail Councillor Tom McNamara fears the overall cut in funding will impact on general road maintenance.
