The Midwest saw an increase in the number of people claiming unemployment benefit this month.
An extra 176 people joined the dole queues here in January, bringing the total number to over 23 thousand 100.

This is 1,300 less than this time last year however – full figures for Clare will be released tomorrow.
Nationally, the unemployment rate has decreased to 14.6 percent with seasonally adjusted figures showing a slight dip of .3 percent – or more than 10-thousand jobless – on the same period last year.
