Thousands of people including hundreds of gardaí have turned out for the state funeral of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe in Dundalk, Co Louth.
President Michael D Higgins and the Taoiseach Enda Kenny have joined the chief mourners, Adrian Donohoe’s wife Caroline, his two young children Niall and Amy and his parents Hugh and Peggy at St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church.

Chief Celebrant Fr Michael Cusack has described Adrian Donohoe as a perfect role model – and he paid tribute to the Gardaí for "laying down their lives" for the people of Ireland.
He said now is the time for reflection on the need for more policing in Ireland – and he made this impassioned appeal for information about his murder:
