Eight of the county’s Garda Stations closed their doors for the final time last week, in what Fine Gael TD Joe Carey insists is a decision taken by the Garda Commissioner, rather than by government.
The Clarecastle representative says the move, backed up by the purchase of more Garda vehicles, will lead to an increased level of patrols and will not lead to an increase in crime in rural areas

Opponents to the decision disagree, but speaking to host John Cooke on Clare FM’s Morning Focus today, Deputy Carey admitted more stations could close in the future.
