Clare TD warns that ECB deal will not affect budget cutbacks

A Clare government TD has warned the government will still have to introduce ‘prudent’ budgets in the coming years, in spite of the debt deal struck with the ECB this week.

Senior government Ministers say the average family will save 650 euro a year as a result of the easing of our debt burden, after the controversial Anglo irish Bank promissory note was swopped for longer term government bonds.

However, though ht insists it is a good deal, Finance Minister Michael Noonan says more work needs to be done as the state is still spending more than it takes in.
