Emergency services staff warn of all out action if pay is cut

Trade unions representing gardaí , nurses and prison officers are warning they will take whatever action is necessary to protect their members pay.

The 24/7 Alliance is to mount a campaign to resist the further salary cuts proposed by the Government, as part of an extension to the Croke Park Agreement.

The unions – which represent 70,000 front-line workers – say the plan to reduce pay by over 10 per cent is totally unacceptable and unrealistic.

Liam Doran – the General Secretary of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation – is not ruling out the possibility of industrial action:
