Killaloe Magdalene Survivor welcomes expected Taoiseach apology

A Killaloe woman who spent five years in a Magdalene Laundry believes a compensation package due to be announced by the government today is justified and necessary.

Mother of three Margaret Joyce is travelling to Leinster House this evening where Taoiseach Enda Kenny is expected to make a formal apology to the women who were forced to work in various laundries around the country.

A compensation package for the over 800 survivors is also due to be approved by the cabinet today.

Margaret Joyce who’s from Ballina – Killaloe spent over 5 years in the laundry run by the Good Shepard Sisters on Clare Street in Limerick, and feels the apology will give some peace and comfort to her and other survivors.
