Ennis Council hit to the tune of 1.5 million with IRBC liquidation

Calls are being made on the government to step in and ensure Clare’s Councils aren’t hit with a multi-million euro loss because of the dissolution of the former Anglo Irish Bank.

The Irish Bank Resolution Corporation has been backing development bonds for construction projects across the county, but that money could now be lost along the liquidation of the banks.

Last night’s meeting of Ennis Town Council heard that it stands to lose 1.5m euro, adding to the 1 million that Clare County Council looks set to miss out on.

The Local Government Management Agency is liaising with government to seek a resolution on the matter, and Ennis Independent Councillor Tommy Brennan feels local authorities need to be protected.
