Study shows Ennis commuter bus service is viable

Ennis Town Council has drawn up a feasibility study which it says shows a commuter bus service in the town is viable.

The document will now be made available to private contractors with a view to bringing the service to the county town.

This study is based on a service running from Clarecastle to the Gort Road Business Park, along a route including the Clare Road, Clon Road, New Road and Steele’s Terrace.

Over 3,000 workers and students make a daily commute along or near this route each day.

With two vehicles operating at 15 minute intervals during peak times in mornings and afternoons, it’s envisaged that the service would cater for over 300 workers and students a day, generating an estimated annual income for the operators of over 200,000 euro.

Ennis Councillors have been told that the Town Council itself will not run this service, but it’s intended that the full results of this study be made available to contractors and groups who may be interested in doing so.
