Clare’s  District Court Judge has paid tribute to Superintendent Gerry Wall who leaves the Kilrush District tomorrow to take up a new post in Kildare.

Supt. Wall has served in the west Clare area for the past two years and recently also took responsibility for the Ennistymon Division

District Court Judge Patrick Durcan said Supt. Wall  was always a prosecutor and never a persecutor. stating there was a thin line between the two and the Superintendent- like a  ballet dancer -always went on the right side.

He added the garda’s role is becoming more difficult and whether you are a new recruit or the Commissioner, recent events in the country show "the whole issue of discretion, the boundary between what you are obliged to do and what you should do to record good policing, is now a very very difficult line to walk – and you always did that."

In further tributes Solicitor Gearoid Williams described him as a vigorous but fair prosecutor, that had grappled with a number of problems in West Clare during his time here.

Judge Durcan said that the people of Leixlip were receiving an officer and a gentleman while Superintendent Wall said he was leaving with certain sadness but added his wife was glad he was coming home.
