Cash for Gold shops praised for aiding burglary investigations

Clare’s Cash for Gold Shops have been complimented for assisting Gardaí in solving recent burglaries, despite fears that such outlets are actually part of the problem of Jewellery thefts.

This weeks meeting of Clare’s Joint Policing Committee meeting heard queries as to whether the opening of Cash for Gold shops had lead to an increase in the theft of Jewellery but Chief Superintendent John Kerin said he didn’t believe that was the case.

He also pointed out that following some burglaries, Gardaí have sent pictures of stolen valuables to local shops, and operators in Clare have been very co-operative in helping to solve the crimes.

Sixmilebridge Committee Member PJ Ryan said he was pleased with this development and explained that scrap merchants have also played their part in helping to prevent trade in stolen metal, wiring and old machinery.
