Chief Superintendent hails success of Clare undercover operations.

Undercover Garda operations may be the way forward in tackling local crime in Clare like drug dealing and recent local burglaries.

That’s according to Chief Superintendent, John Kerin who spoke about the success of using undercover officers from Dublin during recent investigations at a meeting of Clare Joint Policing Committee in Ennis last evening.

In particular he praised the recently transferred Kilrush Superintendent Gerry Wall for an undercover operation which resulted in 8 people being brought before the courts last week for selling and supplying drugs, while other committee members complimented Gardaí for similar tactics in apprehending burglars in the Miltown Malbay area recently.

Chief Superintendent Kerin noted that burglaries are actually down 8% so far this year, but he expressed concern about aggravated incidents in the Kilmihil and Inagh areas which he attributed to local criminals from "inside the county".

Kilmaley Councillor Tom McNamara was pleased to hear that Gardaí are using new methods to tackle these culprits.
