The Judge in the trial of a Barefield man accused of murdering Ennis student Eoin Ryan is due to begin his charge to the jury today.
Joe Heffernan of Cappagh Beg, Barefield, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of the popular 21 year at that address on June 7, 2011.
The trial has heard that Joe Heffernan called Gardaí that morning, to say that he had killed a man who he repeatedly referred to as the Devil, but during closing arguments defending counsel Patrick Gageby suggested either a mental disorder or intoxication was a factor, and called for a verdict of manslaughter.
Today Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy will go through all the evidence heard in the case before the seven women and five men retire to consider their verdict
